How could the country be fuelling a global drug crisis? For decades, Afghanistan has been a global hub for the production of opium, supplying 80% of heroin used worldwide. But after the discovery of the native plant ephedra in 2016, which is a natural source of meth's key ingredient, meth labs are springing up across the country at breakneck speeds.
