As El Salvador arrests thousands, families search for the missing

On March 27th 2022, El Salvador entered into a 30-day "Regimén de Excepción" in response to a rampage of gang-related homicides earlier that month, allowing authorities to hold people under "administrative detention" without charges for up to 15 days.
